Liku’alofa Scenic Island Drive Excursion, 08:30 – 21 Feb

Liku’alofa Scenic Island Drive

Nuku’alofa is the seat of Tonga’s government and home to the royal family. You’ll view
the exterior of the Royal Palace, a white-painted, wooden building, home to His
Majesty King Taufa’ahau Tupou IV. You’ll also see the Royal Tombs, where King
George Tupou I and his descendants were laid to rest.

A short stop will be made beside the rocky coastline to see the dramatic blowholes
where the mighty Pacific rollers are forced through natural fissures to spout 90 feet
skywards.

The Flying Fox is Tonga’s only native land mammal, whose wingspan nearly three
feet. There are literally thousands of these bats, snoozing upside down in the trees,
offering you a great photo opportunity.

After a traditional welcome at the Liku’alofa Beach Resort, you’ll be treated to a buffet
of mouth-watering traditional island dishes, including roast suckling pig, fish, chicken,
taro and seasonal tropical fruits, lunch will be complimented by a performance of
colourfully dressed islanders who will exuberantly serenade you with Tongan song and
dance.
